Contribution to the publication “Torte and Bratwurst – in search for images of emancipatory ruralities” by Kompost Ensemble

Kompost Ensemble is an alliance of people who engage critically and artistically with rurality and rural areas in various projects and constellations. The publication is dedicated to one of the ensemble’s core concerns: the question of emancipatory rurality.

YOUTH focusses on the visibility of a village youth. The documentary photographs and arranged group portraits challenge identification and group dynamics in local groups, clubs and circles of friends. How strongly the group affiliation of young people is characterised by the rural structures in which they grow up? What influence du social networks, family and traditional customs of a village community? The photographs were published as a book along with the essay “Between right wing ideology and the romanticism of the everyday: Idealized images of rural life” by Yasmin El Sayed.
